Regular Labs is no longer offering Magento 2 extensions

[April 8th 2017]

In 2016 I started looking into extension development for Magento 2.
At the start of 2017 I created a few Magento 2 extensions.

I started this venture to see if I can spread my risks to not be fully dependant on Joomla for my source of income.

After a year of investing time (and money), I have decided to stop my venture into Magento 2.

The Magento community is great!

So that is NOT a reason to stop!

I have been emercing myself into the Magento community since 2016 by attending different Magento events.
And I can say I have been welcomed in with open arms.

I have come to know a bunch of wonderful people that have inspired me in different ways.

So I want to thank the Magento community for being so awesome!

It's just too complex

Well, that's the first reason I have come to a halt.
Magento 2 is pretty darn complex and high-level.

That in itself is not a bad thing. Magento 2 is embracing a lot of cool and modern PHP techniques, pushing it forward to the future.

However, I feel I am just too old and stupid to be able to keep up.

What drew me to PHP in the first place (more than a decade ago) is the simplicity of it.
And that is still what I love about it. Being able to quickly and easily create something cool.
Also the way it fits nicely between the server-side and frontend is something that I love. By that I mean that you can do something in PHP and immediately see the result in the frontend (browser).

In my opinion I have not been able to embrace this simplicity when trying to develop for Magento 2.
As a result I don't like (let alone love) coding in the Magento 2 environment.

The target audience doesn't excite me

Magento is an e-commerce platform. So it is aimed at merchants and marketing people.
I don't really have an interest in commerce and marketing and don't see myself as a commercial-minded person.

"So why start messing around with Magento in the first place?", I hear you ask.

Good question!

So to conclude...

So what it comes down to is that I don't have enough passion and joy in developing Magento 2 extensions.
This prevents me from putting in the effort needed to create stuff me and the users love and can rely upon.

I have learnt a lot during this venture, both on the code level as personal level.
It was fun while it lasted!

With kind regards,
